It’s almost that time again…that time between Thanksgiving Break and Winter Break. That time that shall not be named! We’ve been hearing a lot about how students need more study hours at the library. Our director even wrote a blog post in response to the call for a 24/7 library at USI. Several people at the library and around campus have been working hard to extend the library’s hours from early December through the end of finals.
You may not know this, but the library normally offers extended hours for the week before finals and the week of finals, but this year we have a special treat for you! From December 2nd-December 18th enjoy extended library hours!
The extended hours dates are:
December 2 – 6 – Mon.-Fri. 7:00am – 2:00am
December 7 – Saturday 9:00am – 2:00 am
December 8 – Sunday 12noon-2:00 am
December 9-13 – Mon.-Fri. 7:00am-2:00am
December 14 – Saturday 9:00am-2:00am
December 15 – Sunday (Finals Extended Hours) 12noon-2:00am
December 16-17 – Monday-Tuesday (Finals Extended Hours) 7:00am-2:00am
December 18 – Wednesday (Last Day of Finals) 7:00am-8:00pm
For further info, check out the library’s calendar!
Extended hours aren’t the only thing at Rice Library this December! In addition to our study spaces, computer and printers you can also unplug and unwind at the library! Super stressed? Take a chair yoga or meditation break with us. A campus celebrity may also be making an appearance! Mark your calendars!

Chair Yoga– Library Archives, Room 3021, Thursday 12/12/13 6pm-7pm
Campus Celebrity coming to the library! Get your cameras ready!
On to actual studying.
Rice Library has computers on all 4 floors, including 2 computer labs on the first floor. There are also laptops and iPads available for checkout!
To print at the library, you need funds on your FLEX Account and your Eagle Access Card! Use the machine on the first floor to load up your card. The machine takes both cash (bills) and credit card deposits.
If you need a quiet space to study, check out our reading rooms located on the 2nd and 4th floors (if you need absolute silence, the checkout desk is giving away earplugs).
You can also use the Media Hubs and share a screen with your group! Avoid crowding around 1 computer in your meeting, share a big screen and easily switch between different devices.
If you have a group that needs to meet, head to the group study rooms on floors 2, 3 &4! Remember that group study rooms are on a first come, first serve basis and are intended for group work, not individual use. If you have a group that needs to meet and see an individual in a study room, let a librarian know and we’ll ask them to leave!
Rice Library wishes you luck on all of your finals and papers, ans we hope you enjoy your Winter Recess!
