Old National Bank began in 1834 in small quarters at the corner of Main St. and what is now called Riverside Dr. (which would have been Water St. at that time).  The next year it moved into a rather more imposing structure across the street. It was originally known as Old State National Bank, a branch of the Old State Bank of Indiana.  When its charter was sometime between 1883-1884, it was renamed Old National Bank. It remained at this location until 1916.  The location seen here then became a Moose Lodge after the bank moved out.  In 1949 it had the pillars removed and was refaced.  This building was eventually razed around 1960. The 1949  Moose Lodge is seen second below.  Quite a change!

That second, 1916, ONB location was 420 Main St.  It initially looked like the first image below, seen circa 1926.  The following year the top three stories were modified with squarer windows, matching those in the stories below, seen second below. (RH033-012 and 015, the Postcard Collection)

In 1970 Old National Bank moved to yet another location, this one just next door.  The building seen above was then razed.  Seen below is the 1970 building, the one most Evansvillians would recognize.

Of course, if you didn’t move to Evansville before November 21, 2021, then you would not recognize this structure.

Today’s Old National Bank is once again on the riverfront, in virtually the same location as it began in 1834 (see first images in this blog).
