Throughout the month of March, we will be posting tidbits of ISUE-USI sports history in celebration of Arch Madness.

Many Evansville natives remembers the Evansville IceMen, the precursor to the Evansville Thunderbolts. The IceMen came to town in 2010, as the Muskegon Lumberjacks relocated to Evansville, bringing hockey to the Tri-State for the first time … or so some thought (“Evansville IceMen,” 2017).

The University of Southern Indiana’s Ice Eagles introduced hockey to the city of Evansville. Based on the information from the Athletics collection at UASC, the team began in 2001. In their 2003-2004 media guide, they finished with a 9-11-1 record in their first season in the Great Midwest Collegiate Hockey Conference. The Ice Eagles played at Swonder Ice Rink on Evansville’s East Side until 2005-2006 season.

  2. Larry Tracey says:

I helped coach USI Screaming Eagles in 2003 with Mr. Charles Harrington. If you have any roster/pics info that I could look back on I would appreciate this, as I was there for 2 years, I have nothing to look at…. thank you so much… Larry Tracey
