Soaring to History: 1994-1995 Men’s Basketball Season

*Post written by James Wethington, library assistant of the University Archives and Special Collections.

After USI’s heartbreaking loss in the Division II championship game to Cal State Bakersfield, USI was determined to bring home USI’s first-ever NCAA title. Under the leadership of Bruce Pearl, USI had a 29-4 overall record and were the Great Lakes Regional champions in the Division 2 tournament (University of Southern Indiana, 2017).

The Screaming Eagles marched into the National Finals in Louisville, Kentucky by defeating their first two opponents, New Hampshire by fifteen points, and narrowly Norfolk State by eight points (University of Southern Indiana, 2017). Their moment had come against University of California-Riverside: the Screaming Eagles came out on top, defeating UC-Riverside, 71-63 (University of Southern Indiana, 2017). Located in the archive, the championship game footage is available for viewing.
